Stay informed with real-time updates on Cyclone Dana: Anticipated to hit Odisha and southern Bengal tomorrow, this cyclonic storm is set to usher in copious rainfall and thunderous weather conditions.

As Cyclone Dana advances, it is swiftly approaching the coastal region of Odisha, poised to reach land by early Friday morning. The storm promises to unleash intense downpours and thunderstorms upon the state, with its impact extending to the southern areas of West Bengal. Nearly half of Odisha’s population faces the looming threat posed by the impending landfall of Cyclone Dana.

By Wednesday evening, approximately 3-4 lakh individuals residing in the designated ‘danger zone’ have been evacuated, representing only 30% of the total population, as stated by Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, after assessing the state government’s readiness.

The evacuation procedure in high-risk areas will persist into Thursday morning. In the interim, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that cyclone Dana is expected to hit land between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port in the early hours of Friday. The landfall operation is scheduled to begin on the night of October 24.

During the landfall procedure, it is anticipated that the maximum speed will reach approximately 120 kmph, as noted by IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra. Consequently, intense rainfall, powerful winds, and storm surges are expected to peak around the time of landfall, spanning from the night of October 24 to the morning of October 25.

When cyclone Dana hits land in Odisha, the state is anticipated to confront a multitude of hazards, including heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and a tidal surge reaching up to 2 meters.
