Prior to the visit, the MEA announced that Scholz is set to embark on an official trip to India from October 24-26 upon receiving an invitation from Modi. During the visit, both leaders are scheduled to engage in comprehensive discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral strategic relationships, particularly in the domains of defense, commerce, and sustainable energy.
Modi and Scholz are set to jointly lead the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) at Hyderabad House this Friday. The IGC operates as a comprehensive governmental platform where ministers from each side engage in talks within their specific domains and present the results to the prime minister and chancellor. This biannual event’s previous edition took place in Berlin in May 2022.
Partnership Between Germany and India
The collaborative effort known as the German-Indian Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) was established during the discussion between Modi and Scholz. Robert Habeck, the German Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the significance of the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business scheduled to take place in Delhi on Friday and Saturday, speaking to journalists upon his earlier arrival compared to Scholz.
Acknowledging Scholz and Modi, Habeck expressed gratitude before their participation in the upcoming event. Ambassador Philipp Ackermann, in a recent media interaction at his residence, mentioned that a wide range of topics would be on the agenda for discussion when the German chancellor and various federal ministers visit New Delhi on Friday.
India being brought into focus
The German Cabinet reaching a significant milestone with the adoption of the pivotal document “Focus on India” is a noteworthy development. With this initiative, various ministries and departments united to elevate bilateral relations to unprecedented levels, as highlighted by the nation’s ambassador.
The essence of the India-Germany relationship lies in a profound sense of trust, friendship, and mutual responsibility, as emphasized by Uwe Gehlen, the head of development cooperation at the German Embassy in India. This bond not only drives progress within both nations but also plays a crucial role in advancing global development. Gehlen underlined that Chancellor Scholz’s visit resonates harmoniously with this principle, as per PTI’s report in September.
