During the meeting on Monday, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong engaged in conversations with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, focusing on enhancing and broadening bilateral collaboration in the fields of school education, vocational education, and research.
In line with an official announcement, the discussions centered around enhancing the collaboration by emphasizing three fundamental aspects: “Talent, Resources, and Market.

According to the statement, the Minister of Education pointed out the establishment of a strong framework between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart to enhance cooperation between India and Singapore to a comprehensive partnership. This includes working together in crucial and upcoming industries.
During the day, Pradhan had a meeting with Singapore’s Minister for Education, Chan Chun Sing, to explore ways to enhance collaboration in education across different sectors.
Pradhan highlighted the importance of the National Education Policy 2020 in promoting the global integration of India’s education sector. The two ministers discussed options for international internship initiatives, providing Indian students with the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience within Singaporean enterprises.
The statement mentioned that there were discussions about enhancing the cultural ties among students from India and Singapore by considering the option of twinning schools. Additionally, they explored the potential for collaborating on research projects in fields of common interest such as deep tech, medicine, advanced materials, and more.
The ministers of education also discussed enhancing academic and research cooperation by establishing partnerships between schools and universities in both nations.
The statement mentioned the potential collaborations between Singapore’s National Institute of Education and NCERT in curriculum development, pedagogy, and teacher capacity-building. Pradhan invited Minister Chan to India, emphasizing the commitment to advancing mutual objectives and strengthening educational bonds between the two countries.
Pradhan also held discussions with Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan regarding the enhancement of the India-Singapore Knowledge Partnership.
During his trip, he paid a visit to the president of the National University of Singapore, Tan Eng Chye.
In their conversation, they explored the idea of utilizing their respective strengths to establish bridges of knowledge, enhance academic and research partnerships, and foster closer relationships between NUS and leading Indian higher education institutions in various academic spheres.
The statement highlighted Pradhan’s emphasis on the potential collaboration between NUS and Indian HEIs to generate value in various sectors like deep start-ups, healthcare, advanced materials, digitalization, and sustainability.
The goal of the minister’s upcoming journey from Singapore to Australia, scheduled for October 20 to 26, 2024, is to enhance cooperation, engagement, and alignment in key educational areas of shared importance.
