Israeli officials reported the discovery of approximately $500 million concealed in a clandestine Hezbollah hideout located within a Beirut hospital.
The Israeli military announced on Monday that they have obtained declassified information regarding a clandestine Hezbollah bunker located under a hospital in Beirut, Lebanon. According to the IDF, this covert bunker is suspected to serve as Hezbollah’s financial center, housing substantial amounts of cash and gold amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, uncovered following an Israeli airstrike on the hospital.
The Israeli military carried out precise airstrikes in Beirut on Sunday evening, specifically targeting Hezbollah’s financial infrastructure. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the IDF spokesperson, mentioned in a televised briefing that the underground bunker was strategically located beneath the Al-Sahel Hospital in downtown Beirut.
During the briefing, Hagari announced his intention to declassify intelligence information concerning a site that was not targeted for a strike. This site, located beneath Al-Sahel Hospital in Beirut, is where Hezbollah reportedly stores millions of dollars in gold and cash within Hassan Nasrallah’s bunker.
He stated that roughly $500 million was believed to be located within the Hezbollah bunker, emphasizing that there is a minimum of half a billion dollars in cash and gold stored in the bunker. He highlighted the potential of this money being utilized to reconstruct Lebanon.
The IDF spokesperson mentioned that a primary objective last night involved targeting an underground vault containing millions in cash and gold. This wealth was reportedly funding Hezbollah’s assaults on Israel, as reported by AFP.
Fadi Alameh, a Lebanese legislator and the hospital’s director, dismissed Israel’s accusations as untrue and defamatory. He called on the military to inspect the hospital to reveal its true nature, emphasizing that it solely houses operating theaters and a morgue.
Alameh further mentioned the evacuation of the hospital, with reassurances from the Israeli ministry that the facility would not be targeted.
The Israeli Chief of the General Staff, Herzi Halevi, informed soldiers in Lebanon that during the night between Sunday and Monday, approximately 30 locations affiliated with Al-Qard al-Hassan were targeted by aircraft. Israel claims this organization to be Hezbollah’s financial entity.
Israeli military officials anticipate a sustained series of strikes targeting Hezbollah’s financial assets in the future.
