Mercedes S Class gets new features, colours

The S 580 Maybach has been upgraded with rear-axle steering, resulting in a price increase of Rs 2.05 lakh.

In India, Mercedes-Benz has rolled out several enhancements for the S-Class sedan, incorporating new features and a significant mechanical update. The S-Class lineup kicks off at Rs 1.77 crore (ex-showroom) with the S 350d model, while the upgraded versions such as the S 450 4Matic and S 580 Maybach have undergone a refresh.

The latest enhancement in the S 450 4Matic includes the integration of additional airbags. This encompasses fresh seatbelt airbags for rear occupants and a novel center airbag positioned between the driver and front passenger seats. Moreover, it is now equipped with Mercedes’ Energizing air purification system, complete with a distinct air quality menu on the MBUX screen.

Mercedes has recently unveiled a pair of fresh exterior and interior color options: Emerald Green Metallic paired with Sienna Brown/Black interior, and Manufaktur Rubellite Red Metallic complemented by Macchiato Beige/Magma Grey interior.

The latest revision brings the S 450 4Matic’s price to 1.88 crore (ex-showroom), representing a Rs 1.45 lakh increase from the previous model. Equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 engine, it generates an impressive 367hp and 500Nm of torque.

The more crucial update comes on the S 580 Maybach variant, which now gets rear-axle steering up to 10 degrees. Mercedes initially offered the rear-axle steering on the launch edition of the S-Class when it went on sale in 2021, but later removed it when they began local assembly. It, however, continued to be available on the fully imported S 680 Maybach version. Given the S-Class’ gigantic proportions, this will surely be a welcome addition for buyers.

The latest enhancements comprise of the introduction of a center airbag positioned between the front seats, along with the fresh Manufaktur Rubellite Red Metallic exterior color option paired with the Maybach-specific Macchiato Beige/Magma Grey interior. The price of the S 580 Maybach now stands at 2.74 crore (ex-showroom), marking an increase of Rs 2.05 lakh compared to the previous pricing. Under the hood, the S 580 Maybach boasts a robust 4.0-liter V8 engine delivering 496hp, while the S 680 Maybach is equipped with a commanding V12 engine producing 603hp.
