Meta Platforms has decided to prolong its prohibition on new political advertisements following the election in order to combat misinformation. The parent company of Facebook stated that existing political ads can still be displayed with minor alterations, but new ads will be restricted to ensure thorough content validation procedures can be carried out effectively.
Following the U.S. election, Meta Platforms has announced an extension of its prohibition on new political advertisements. The suspension will remain in effect until later this week, as stated in a recent blog post by the parent company of Facebook.
This year, tech companies are increasing vigilance in light of the widespread dissemination of inaccurate information during the last presidential election.
Throughout the period of restrictions, Meta will not permit new political advertisements. Nonetheless, previously displayed ads that had garnered at least one impression prior to the enforcement of the ban will persist, albeit with limited editing capabilities.
Meta continues to uphold its policy from prior years, stating that there might not be ample time to adequately contest new assertions presented in political advertisements in the final phase of the election.
Meta prohibited political campaigns and advertisers from regulated industries from utilizing its new generative AI advertising tools last year.
