60-year-old Pamela Ferreyra has been apprehended on suspicion of murder, nearly thirty years following the finding of a deceased newborn in a shopping bag at an unauthorized dumping ground in Monterey County, California.
Discovered on December 3, 1994, along Garin Road, the infant boy, affectionately dubbed “Baby Garin,” was nestled in a pink and blue blanket within a red shopping bag.
The infant was thought to be approximately three days old at the time he was deserted.
After thorough investigations back then, officials couldn’t determine the baby’s mother, causing the case to remain unsolved for around three decades. Nonetheless, modern advancements in DNA technology have finally led to a significant breakthrough.
The specific reason for the infant’s demise remains unknown. Reports by the coroner in 1994 indicated that the remains were too decomposed to yield conclusive findings; nonetheless, authorities confirmed that the baby was not born lifeless.
Last week, Ferreyra was apprehended without incident at her residence and is now facing a murder charge. Currently, she is detained at the Monterey County Jail on a bond set at $1 million.
Sheriff Tina M. Nieto revealed that the newborn was dubbed “Baby Garin” in honor of the street where he was discovered. She explained that the name Garin signifies safeguarding, reflecting the community’s commitment to protecting its young ones.
