James Maddison, the captain of Tottenham, drew parallels between his teammate Moore and Neymar, who became the world’s most expensive footballer following his transfer to PSG from Barcelona for a whopping 222 million euros back in 2017.
After his remarkable performance in the Europa League match against AZ Alkmaar, Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore drew comparisons to Brazilian star Neymar. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged the challenge of managing the rising expectations surrounding Moore.
In only his second appearance for the senior squad, the 17-year-old Moore impressed while operating on the left flank, often outmaneuvering AZ defenders with ease.
During the period spanning between the 45th and 65th minute, Tottenham captain James Maddison expressed his admiration for his teammate’s performance on the left wing, likening him to Neymar. Neymar, the most expensive footballer globally, made a transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017 for a record-breaking fee of 222 million euros, as Maddison shared with TNT Sports.
Maddison added that the fearless young mentality of demanding the ball should never be stripped away from him.
As an experienced player, I aim to provide guidance and wisdom to support the development of this talented young boy who eagerly absorbs information and possesses abundant skill. He displays dedication by consistently working hard, a quality that is essential for nurturing his exceptional abilities.
Admitting that reining in the high expectations surrounding Moore’s potential contributions to the London club poses a challenge, Postecoglou acknowledged the task ahead of him.
“It’s pretty hard for me to keep a lid on it now ain’t it? He was exciting. There is no point denying it,” said the manager.
Mikey impresses with his seamless approach, diligently putting in the work daily. He aims for growth, fully aware that this is a transformative path.
Postecoglou, though, issued a word of caution: “It’s crucial that we handle his usage with care, being mindful of when and how we deploy him, especially at this initial phase.
